Andy Weir wrote the book 'The Martian' on which the 2015 Matt Damon film was based, and now he's turning his hand to TV. US network CBS has ordered a pilot for 'Mission Control', a NASA-themed drama penned by Weir.
The show "revolves around the next generation of NASA astronauts and scientists who juggle their personal and professional lives during a critical mission with no margin for error".
'The Martian' featured some incredibly realistic details, and shone a light on the inner workings of NASA. Hence sci-fi fans should be excited that Weir will be behind this new drama.
If the pilot impresses CBS, it could commission a whole series, but that won't be for a while yet. Weir has plenty of other projects keeping him busy – as well as writing another sci-fi novel, he's making a film with Ridley Scott.
Weir will also executive produce 'Mission Control' alongside Courtney Conte and Quantum Phung, Simon Kinberg and Aditya Sood, and Charles Eglee.
It's not the only treat for sci-fi fans. Recently, it was announced 'Aliens' director James Cameron will make a series for AMC exploring the history of sci-fi.
