A new streaming service has launched in the US that serves up the best of British television.

BritBox – which was announced back in December – is a joint venture between the BBC and ITV. It gives American viewers shows like 'Cold Blood', 'EastEnders', 'Casualty', 'Emmerdale', 'Holby City' and 'Tutankhamun' on-demand.

Programmes will be available as soon as a day after they air here in Blighty.

There's also a treasure trove of old favourites to choose from, including 'Fawlty Towers', 'The Young Ones', 'Blackadder' and 'Absolutely Fabulous'. And it has themed collections, like Very British Beginnings, which charts the early careers of Hollywood A-listers like Daniel Craig.

In all, it offers more than 2,000 hours of shows available to watch, and that will be added to over time.

Those Stateside can watch online through, or through the apps for iPhone, Android and Apple TV. Dedicated Roku and Chromecast apps are on the way.

BritBox costs $6.99 (£5.75) a month, which is slightly less than Netflix or Amazon Prime Video.
