Netflix has announced two new European series are coming to its roster of Netflix originals.
'Suburra' is an Italian crime thriller set in Rome. It throws together the Church, state, real estate developers and criminals to see who will come out on top. It's a prequel to the 2015 film and original novel of the same name by Carlo Bonini and Giancarlo De Cataldo.
The series is set years before both the film and novel. Its 10 episodes chart 20 days of action.
'Las chicas del cable', meanwhile, also involves crime. Set in Madrid in the roaring twenties – the golden age of jazz – it follows the lives and loves of four female Spanish switchboard operators as they plan a heist.
Netflix is so confident of its success, it's already commissioned a second series.
The streaming service has more than 90 shows in production throughout Europe. CEO Reed Hastings recently confirmed it will add support for the Romanian and Greek languages this year, bringing its total number of European languages to 15.
The service now has more than 90 million subscribers worldwide.
