Streaming service Hulu has released the first trailer for 'The Handmaid's Tale'.
The series is based on Margaret Atwood's dystopian novel of the same name.
It tells the story of a society that, beset by a series of crises, becomes ruled by a repressive regime that brutally oppresses women. Laws restrict women's rights, while armed guards patrol the streets.
Elizabeth Moss plays Offred, the main character. She's captured and forced to be a handmaid, bearing children for the society's elites.
It's a chilling tale that has stark echoes of our current political climate.
Hulu is a US-only service. There's been no announcement yet as to which UK-operating broadcaster or streaming service will offer the series. Though given the anticipation surrounding it, we would imagine a fierce bidding war is currently ongoing.
That a streaming service was able to snag the rights ahead of US TV networks just shows how seriously internet-based TV services are right now. And it's nice to see Netflix not picking up all the big series for a change.
