Netflix has released a teaser trailer for a prequel series to Jim Henson's film 'The Dark Crystal.'

Called 'The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance', the 10-episode series will return to the film's fictional planet Thra, where the humanoid Gelflings live alongside the Skesis (who look like birds, as you can see above). The Skesis represent different kinds of evil.

The series will focus on three Gelflings who "discover the horrifying secret behind the Skesis' power" and start a rebellion.

It will be directed by Louis Leterrier ('The Incredible Hulk', 'Clash of the Titans'), who will also executive produce alongside The Jim Henson Company.

Netflix is yet to announce a release date for the series.

Netflix has been investing heavily in original content lately – upcoming projects include an animated film about Michael Jackson's pet chimpanzee Bubbles, and a series based on 'The Witcher' series of books and video games.

Netflix now has over 100 million subscribers, and is available in more than 190 countries around the world.
