Netflix has commissioned a new animated comedy series from Matt Groening, the man behind 'The Simpsons'.
'Disenchantment' is an adult series set in the crumbling kingdom of Dreamland. It follows the misadventures of a hard-drinking young princess named Bean, her feisty elf companion Elfo, and her personal demon Luci. The three will encounter ogres, sprites, harpies, imps, trolls, walruses, and lots of human fools, we're promised.
"Ultimately, 'Disenchantment' will be about life and death, love and sex, and how to keep laughing in a world full of suffering and idiots, despite what the elders and wizards and other jerks tell you," Groening said in a statement.
On voice talent duties will be Abbi Jacobson as Bean, Nat Faxon as Elfo, and Eric Andre as Luci, as well as John DiMaggio, Billy West, and Brits Matt Berry and Noel Fielding.
Animation will be handled by Rough Draft Studios, the company behind Groening's other animated series 'Futurama'.
The first series of 10 episodes will air in 2018, with another series to follow. Groening will executive produce, alongside Josh Weinstein, his colleague from both 'The Simpsons' and 'Futurama'.
Netflix was chuffed to be working with Groening. "Matt Groening's brilliant work has resonated with generations around the world and we couldn't be happier to work with him on 'Disenchantment'," said Cindy Holland, vice president, original content for Netflix.
"The series will bear his trademark animation style and biting wit, and we think it's a perfect fit for our many Netflix animation fans."
