netflix is a joke

Billboards declaring "Netflix is a joke" have sprung up in certain parts of America.

The billboards have appeared in New York and Los Angeles. It's thought they're part of an advertising campaign by the streaming service to promote its new slate of original comedy commissions.

The billboards were spotted in Hell's Kitchen, New York, and over the Arco petrol station at Olympic and Robertson in Los Angeles, among other locations.

The campaign is expected to expand in the coming weeks, and to feature big-name comedians like Jerry Seinfeld and Chris Rock, both of who have comedy specials coming to Netflix.

Netflix has commissioned a raft of original comedy specials recently, the biggest of which is 'Jerry Before Seinfeld', a look back at the early routines that made the comedian a star.

It premieres on Netflix on 19th September.

Netflix has also signed specials from Amy Schumer and Dave Chappelle.
