The final series of 'Game of Thrones' might not be broadcast until 2019, according to one of the show's actors.

Sophie Turned (who plays Sansa Stark) touted the release date in an interview with Variety.

"I'm really excited," she told the publication in a chat about her upcoming projects. "'Game of Thrones' comes out in 2019."

She added that production had started in October, as previously reported.

US network HBO is yet to confirm an official broadcast date for the final series. The show was previously rumoured to return in late 2018 or early 2019. Production could run until August 2018.

Season eight is said to comprise only six episodes, fewer than the usual 10. Series seven was the shortest series yet, consisting of only seven episodes.

However, some of season eight's episodes are expected to be longer than the typical 48 minutes. The series seven finale was the longest episode yet, running 81 minutes.

In the UK, 'Game of Thrones' airs on Sky Atlantic, which is also available on Now TV.
