Netflix has picked up four Oscar nominations for its film 'Mudbound'.

The nominations are for Best Supporting Actress (for Mary J. Blige), Best Adapyed Screenplay, Best Original Song ('Mighty River' by Mary J. Blige) and Best Achievement in Cinematography (for Rachel Morrison).

That makes Morrison the first woman to ever be nominated in that category.

'Mudbound' tells the story of two World War II veterans – one white, one black – who return to rural Mississippi to confront racism and post-traumatic stress disorder.

It's based on the Hillary Jordan novel of the same name.

Netflix also distributes two of the nominations for Best Documentary: 'Icarus' and 'Strong Island'.

The Academy Awards take place on Sunday 4th March in the US, which is the early morning of Monday 5th UK time.
