Streaming service Kodi is about to add videogame streaming to its arsenal, thanks to the upcoming 18 Leia software update. But anyone offering or playing games through it could face legal troubles.
It's certainly a tantalising prospect. Kodi is media management software that has become the go-to platform for pirates the world over. Now, as well as offering TV and film content, they will be able to provide retro videogames from some of history's most iconic consoles.
Users would be able to play without any extra hardware. All they would need is a Kodi box and a controller.
However, games companies aren't likely to take this lying down. Makers of fully-loaded Kodi boxes (i.e. those enabled for streaming illegal film and TV content) have faced a flurry of lawsuits recently. Those offering pirated games are likely to face the same fate, as are those playing them without paying.
Our advice? Stay well away, unless you fancy a hefty fine or court summons.
