the crown

Streaming services are well and truly established players in the televisual industry, and there’s no clearer sign of that than awards ceremonies. At the recent Emmys, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video came up trumps.

Netflix tied US broadcasting powerhouse HBO for the most wins, with 23 apiece. Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, meanwhile, won eight Emmys – just one shy of Game of Thrones, whose nine wins was the most of any show.

Maisel was the only winner for Amazon, but Netflix’s wins came from The Crown, Godless, John Mulaney’s stand-up comedy special Kid Gorgeous, Seven Seconds and Black Mirror.

Maisel’s wins came across a broad spread of categories, including Outstanding Casting for a Comedy Series, Outstanding Single Camera Picture Editing for a Comedy Series, Outstanding Music Supervision, Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.
