The second part of Netflix’s hit true-crime documentary Making a Murderer is almost here. Part two airs on 19th October – that’s a week today.

The first series was about the highly dubious conviction of Steven Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey for the 2015 murder of photographer Teresa Halbach. Part two catches up with both of their appeals following their 2015 convictions.

It’s certainly been a torturous few years for the pair. Brendan Dassey had his conviction overturned in 2016, only to have it restored soon after. Avery continues to maintain his innocence while his lawyer, Kathleen Zellner, seeks to up-end the system and see him freed.

The first series painted a damning portrait of the US criminal justice system, though critics accused it of leaving out crucial evidence. Part 2 is likely to be no less controversial.
