iPhone X pre–orders: everything you need to know

More than six weeks after it was first unveiled, Apple’s long–awaited iPhone X is finally available to pre–order from this Friday, 27th October.

In the time since it was revealed, there has been plenty of conjecture about whether Apple can cope with demand, with suggestions its suppliers can’t make the device fast enough.

But if that doesn’t concern you, here’s everything you need to know about how you can secure an iPhone X by the end of the week.

Not up to speed with the iPhone X yet? Here's everything you need to know.

Get online at 8.01am on 27th October

Apple throws open pre–orders at 8.01am this Friday, 27th October. That goes whether you want to buy it SIM free or on a monthly contract.

Analysts have suggested that Apple will only have around three million devices ready to ship at launch.

That suggests that millions of pre-order customers won't actually receive their iPhone X when it’s officially released on 3rd November, but will face a wait of weeks until supply catches up with demand.

To be in with a chance, we suggest having your card details to hand with a final decision made on the colour and size you want too, with more than one tab open just in case.

Use the Apple Store app

If you've decided you want to buy SIM free, this is by the far those frictionless way to buy stuff from Apple.

Using your Apple ID and card details, it makes ordering easy, especially as you can ‘heart’ the iPhone X model you’re keen on to make checkout even faster.

Download the app.

Get a headstart

Already on Apple’s annual iPhone Upgrade Program? Then you can take advantage of a special headstart period, starting 23rd October.

This allows Apple to approve your decision to spread the cost of the device over the next year, while ensuring you don’t have to go through this process while checking out on Friday, losing valuable minutes in the process.

Get registered with your network

Make sure you’ve registered your interest with your chosen network, so you can pre–order it as soon as the option to do so goes live.

EE, Three, O2, Vodafone and Sky Mobile are all offering the chance to do so. It takes a few minutes and could mean you have an iPhone X before anyone else.

Take the traditional route and queue

The iPhone X isn’t actually out until 3rd November in Apple stores.

But if you’re concerned that ordering online could lead to weeks of disappointment, there is one extreme measure you can take: start queueing.

The days of long lines snaking round the block on iPhone launch day have faded somewhat, but if you put in 48 hours outside one of Apple’s flagship London stores, it’s almost a dead cert you’ll have that slick new handset before anyone else.

Be sure to wrap up warm, though.
