Apple has announced its iPhone App Store has recorded its one-billionth download.
The App Store has hit the landmark just nine months after being launched, with the company confirming the news with a message which read simply “Thanks a billion”.
Apple also used the occasion to announce the most popular paid-for iPhone applications ever, with games making up 15 of the top 20.
These included the fast-paced platformer Crash Bandicoot Nitro, as well as the puzzle games Tetris and Bejeweled 2.
Meanwhile, Facebook Mobile was the most in-demand free application, while Google Earth and The Weather Channel were in second and third place respectively.
Apple recently posted a credit crunch-defying set of first-quarter results, buoyed by the ongoing success of the iPhone.
Around 3.79 million iPhone handsets were shipped during the three months to March 31st – up some 123 per cent compared with the same period last year.
