Both Phones4U and HMV have announced that they’ll be offering iPhone 3G S handsets for sale imminently. HMV’s emergence as a player in the mobile phone market follows the deal it agreed with Orange earlier this year for a phone concession in 100 stores across Albion.
Brendan Sweeney, Phones4U's managing director said: "We are very pleased to be partnering with both Orange and O2 to sell the iPhone.
“Recognised for our in-depth understanding of the youth market and their needs, our knowledgeable and skilled staff are in a strong position to introduce the Apple iPhone to our Phones4U customer base".
We expect to start seeing the iPhone 3G S in both retailers as of around mid-November. Alas, so far Orange's price points for the phone are firmly under wraps. But if Carphone head Charles Dunstone is to be believed, the increased competition for O2 is likely to result in monthly tariffs falling by at least £5 per month.
