Vodafone, O2, Orange, T-Mobile and 3 are all taking pre-orders for the phone, which teams ultra-sleek looks with powerful high-end handset functionality.

Alongside carriers, high street retailers, including Carphone Warehouse, are also accepting pre-orders for the phone - amid predictions that it will break first-day sales records when it officially goes on sale on June 24th.

Unveiled earlier this month to an awed reception, the fourth edition of the iPhone improves on its predecessors with the inclusion of a powerful processor and an upgraded operating system to allow owners to use multiple apps simultaneously.

The handset also features an enhanced five megapixel camera with a five times digital zoom and LED flash, HD video recording and an industry-leading, super high resolution screen to bring mini movies and other media to life.

Elsewhere, the phone is home to a secondary camera and built-in FaceTime app for video calling, a gyroscope for more responsive motion sensitive gaming, plus a longer-life battery that offers up to seven hours talk time, up to ten hours of video playback and a maximum of 40 hours of music.

Thus far, the sole UK network to break cover with tariffs is O2. Consumers who choose the original iPhone carrier can select from 12 pay monthly plans for new and upgrading customers, with both 24-month and 18-month options available.

Of these, the cheapest monthly tariff is £25 per month over two years, which includes 100 call minutes and 500Mb of data usage per month.

However, would-be buyers on O2 are still awaiting price points for the device itself.

T-Mobile and 3 have never before offered Apple phones for sale. Tech fans are especially keen to see 3’s plans, with speculation mounting that it could undercut carriers and offer buyers unlimited data usage - something that some other networks appear likely to abandon.

3 has traditionally pitched itself as a low-cost provider, which has also prompted predictions that it may come to market with some of the most attractive iPhone tariffs yet seen.
