A BBC News app is on the way to the iPhone, despite the fact that its development was brought into question by the broadcaster's commercial rivals.
The BBC Trust took its time considering whether or not the app would be a reasonable offering to bring to the marketplace, but has now found in favour of the corporation.
An Android version of the app is reportedly also in the works, although users will have to wait several months for its arrival.
Diane Coyle, Spokesperson for the BBC Trust, stated: "The Trust has a duty to represent the interests of licence fee payers, who will increasingly expect to access BBC content in this way, but also to listen to concerns raised by industry.
"In this case we have concluded that while the Apps market is developing quickly and we will monitor the launch of BBC Apps, a PVT [public value test] is not required."
