Rockstar Games has announced it will soon be porting Grand Theft Auto III to a range of iOS and Android powered devices to celebrate its tenth anniversary.
Many of you will remember Grand Theft Auto III as the game pretty much kick-started the 3D sandbox genre on PCs and consoles. Well, if you own a smartie or tablet running the iOS and Android operating systems, you’ll soon be able to enjoy Rockstar’s open world epic on the go.
Initially the game will be only supported on select devices, which include the following:
Apple iOS Devices: iPad 2, iPhone 4S
Android Phones: Droid X2, HTC Evo 2, LG Optimus 2X, Motorola Atrix, Samsung Galaxy S2
Android Tablets: Acer Iconia, Asus Eee Pad, Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
Rockstar has confirmed it will eventually add more devices to this list but for the time being it appears only those that sport dual core processors are most likely to let us revisit Liberty City’s streets in the foreseeable future. To us, this actually justifies owning a dual core phone or slate for the first time, and we can certainly see this become a trend as more developers start to follow suit with similar console-quality titles.
Grand Theft Auto III will land on the App Store and Android Market later this autumn. Pricing details have yet to be announced but we’re estimating it will be somewhere around $10 (£7-8).
