Apple’s iPad mini to be ‘ultra thin’

Rumours of a smaller version of Apple’s iPad just won’t let up amid fresh claims that the as-yet unannounced tablet will sport an ultra slim design.

A Digitimes report citing unnamed ‘industry sources’ states the device will feature cutting-edge “G/F2 technology” that’ll enable the Cupertino-based giant to shave even more bulk from the best-selling slate.

The shadowy tipsters added that components-maker Nitto will supply the key thin-film materials, while Nissha Printing and TPK will produce the touch screens.

Apple launched its regularly sized, third-generation tablet, dubbed simply ‘new iPad’ in March. The company has repeatedly denied there are any plans to create a smaller version.

Steve Jobs had said reducing the iPad’s size would not be conducive to a great tablet experience.

Last month, we asked uSwitch readers if they would like to see an iPad mini. Out of 1,162 respondents, 68 per cent said they wouldn’t.
