Carphone Warehouse has officially announced it will be ranging the newly unveiled iPhone 5 on all the big mobile operators when it lands in Blighty.
The high-street vendor became the first major UK retailer to confirm its plans for Apple’s latest tilt at a smartphone, as we count down to the handset’s official retail and network release date on September 21st.
Eager punters can reserve their iPhone 5 right now by paying a £29 deposit. Or they can simply register their interest on the Carphone Warehouse website to be notified when it’s available to pick up with a range of contract deals from O2, T-Mobile, Orange, Three and Vodafone.
“We are the only retailer to offer the handset across all the major networks and are increasing call centre times to cope with the vast amount of enquiries we’re expecting on this handset," said CEO Andrew Harrison in a statement.
Describing his excitement for the handset, he added: "Apple has raised the bar once again with the launch of yet another compelling device and we expect to see unprecedented demand for the handset, accessories and insurance cover.
“This highly anticipated handset launch, alongside the 4G announcement made this week, has really set the tone to ignite the high street ahead of Christmas 2012.”
Standout specs of the sixth-gen iKit include a larger, four-inch Retina display, 4G LTE support (due to launch on EE in a few weeks’ time), an A6 processor that boasts twice the performance of last year’s iPhone 4S and an enhanced eight-megapixel snapper that takes even better snaps in low-light settings.
Also on board is the new ‘Lightning’ dock connector that’s 80 per cent smaller than before, faster wireless capabilities and the latest iOS 6 operating system that brings a plethora of new features and improvements, including updated versions of native apps, Siri enhancements and a new PassBook app that serves as your digital wallet.
