The iPhone 5 is the year’s greatest gadget, according to the serious-minded sorts at Time magazine.
Apple’s latest kit beat the Nintendo Wii U to clinch the number one spot in the news digest’s list of the year’s finest tech-flavoured consumer durables, prompting list author Harry McCracken to dub it the handset “one of the most artfully polished gadgets anyone's ever built”.
The only other smartphone to make the list was the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, which cropped up at number seven in a further sign of the increasing mass-market appeal of expansive phablet form factors.
Time stated: “There are lots of nifty smartphones out there, including the iPhone’s impressive arch-rival, Samsung’s Galaxy S3.
“But when it comes to melding hardware, software and services so tightly that the seams fade away, Apple still has no peer.”
But before they pop open the bubbly down at Infinite Loop and toast another job well done worth nothing that Time’s record on gong-giving isn’t all it might be. Nowhere more so than when it named Adolf Hitler Person of the Year in 1938.
Still for what it’s worth, here’s the mag's list in full:
