A gold edition of Apple’s forthcoming iPhone 5S now appears nailed on.
After a series of parts leaks and a note from renowned analyst Ming Chi Kuo gave rise to huge gossip last week, TechCrunch’s MG Siegler has also weighed in, saying there will be such a device.
While it seems like a bizarre move, Siegler says he’s been told the phone will be more ‘champagne’ than gold and be aimed squarely at the luxury end of the market in China and India.
The idea is to position the iPhone 5S well ahead of the budget iPhone 5C, which is also aimed squarely at cost-conscious consumers in those territories, says Siegler.
Apple has never deviated from its basic black and white colour schemes with the iPhone.
However, with Samsung currently riding high in the smartphone sector, it needs to pull as many tricks as it can to reassert its position.
The iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C are expected to make an official appearance at a special Apple event on September10th
