Apple has sold out of AirPods, its wireless headphones designed to work with iPhones and iPads, with a week left until Christmas.
The headphones are showing as available on the company’s online store, but they won’t ship until January.
It means anyone looking for a last-minute Apple gift is likely to be disappointed, unless they head to their local Apple Store and hope for the best. Resellers may also have AirPods in stock.
Initial reactions to the AirPods were muted when they were released in 2016, with critics lamenting their poor sound quality.
But with Apple’s iPhone range dispensing with the standard 3.5mm headphone slot, the earbuds have boomed in popularity, with users keen to use a device that syncs swiftly with their handset.
At £159, they represent an expensive Christmas present. But with the iPhone X starting at £999, they were a worthy alternative for Apple lovers. At least until Apple sold out.
