The warmly received iPhone X is a very cool handset indeed, with peerless facial recognition technology, terrific cameras and a sleek all-screen front. But at £1,000, it’s no-one’s idea of wallet-friendly.
For that outlay, you could get yourself a smattering of citybreaks in bijou hotels in sun-dappled locations. Or if you’re more of a stay-at-home type, you could nab a PS4, a Nintendo Switch AND a trove of games.
Or perhaps better still, you could buy an achingly cool car to cruise around in. And have plenty of money left over to do with what thou wilt.
According to car-buying comparison site Motorway.co.uk, a Jaguar XJ8 with 204,000 miles on the clock was recently listed on the site for £595. That leaves you with nearly enough to get an iPhone 6S as your next handset (currently priced £449).
Not sold on one of the most iconic British cars ever built? Hmm, okay. Well how about a sporty MG MGF from ’95 for £690? Or maybe a boat-sized Chrysler PT Cruiser for £655 for ferrying around your family?
Here’s a full run down on ten cars recently valued on Motorway.co.uk for less than the outlay for an iPhone X.

Alex Buttle, director of car buying comparison website Motorway.co.uk, said: “When we looked into the £1,000 used car market, we were surprised by the sheer number of cheap cars for sale that were cool when bought new a few years back and are even cooler today.
“If you can see past a few miles on the clock and the odd mechanical failure, you can pick up a little piece of auto history for less than the price of an iPhone X.
"Not only that, but it may last more than a year before needing an upgrade!”
