*The "average" speed displayed in Mb represents the speed available to 50% of customers with this product during peak time (between 8pm and 10pm). The actual speed you will get depends on your cabling, your area and (with non-fibre optic products) time of day and how far you are from the telephone exchange. Most providers will tell you the likely speed you will receive when you begin your online sign up — this may differ from the average speed displayed on our table.

Contract discount compares the promotional price currently offered across all services (broadband, line rental, TV, etc.) against the monthly cost of the same package without promotions, multiplied by the duration of the contract.

The deals available at your postcode are subject to local availability. The provider will confirm availability for your line.

We aim to take the strain out of broadband comparison. Good broadband deals aren't just about the price, it's also about what's included in the product, the speeds offered and any extra incentives providers are offering. To balance all of these, we have developed a ranking formula that takes into account deals that are proving to be popular with our customers, that are competitive in the market and have a smooth buying process.

If you prefer, you can sort deals by monthly cost, speed or contract length. You can also choose to show costs as monthly or full contract, which lets you see the total spend over the contract period, including any setup costs.

uSwitch services are provided at no cost to you, but we may receive a commission from the companies we refer you to.

Broadband deals explained

Mobile broadband is an easy way to get access to the internet wherever you are. Whether you live in a rural area, travel frequently or work remotely, 4G mobile broadband will let you get online no matter where you are.

How does mobile broadband work?

Mobile broadband works by connecting your device to mobile data signals — the same that your smartphone uses. Because of this, it does mean that you can get online anywhere there's a mobile signal, but if you struggle to get mobile reception, however, you'll struggle to get mobile broadband, too.

Check out of guide on mobile broadband coverage to learn more.

You can access mobile broadband in one of three ways:

  • 1. SIM cards: A lot of providers sell data-only SIM cards, which are basically the same thing as mobile broadband. A lot of portable devices, like tablets, have SIM card slots, so you can plug in a data-only SIM and get mobile broadband that way.
  • 2. Mobile broadband dongles: Roughly the size of a USB stick, dongles are the most common way to connect to mobile broadband. Just plug the dongle into your laptop's USB port, and you can get online.
  • 3. MiFi units: These are small devices that act more like a Wi-Fi router, allowing multiple users and devices to connect to mobile broadband.

What is 4G mobile broadband?

4G is a super-fast mobile connection. According to the ITU, the 4G standard is 100Mbps for high-mobility communications (connections that operate during high speeds, like cars or trains) and 1Gbps for low-mobility communications (sitting or walking, basically).

4G is much faster than 3G due to these high speeds and the fact that 4G networks have a higher spectral efficiency — meaning they're 'wider' lanes and can allow for more users.
