The annual Uswitch Broadband and Mobiles awards are a celebration of innovation and exceptional service within the telecoms industry. The announcement of the year’s winners is often accompanied by a glitzy event in a trendy London location, where industry experts meet and mingle to celebrate their various wins.
While this year the winners have been announced online, their wins are no less prestigious.
This year’s big winner for broadband was Plusnet, taking home four awards in total. Chosen by a combination of a survey of Uswitch customers and Uswitch data, Plusnet won the awards for Best Provider Customer Service, Best Value Broadband Provider, Most Popular Broadband Provider and Broadband Provider of the Year.
Plusnet has long been a popular broadband provider with Uswitch customers, with great customer service and affordable price at the heart of all its broadband deals.
Sam Calvert, Marketing Director for Plusnet, said, “Our people have worked tirelessly to connect those who need it most throughout the pandemic. To win these awards during such a difficult year is proof we’ve done right by our customers during this time.
“Uswitch is a respected and impartial service that’s important for customers to compare and switch providers, so to hear that customers who are value-conscious choose us as the best provider is validation that we’re doing it right for them.”
In 2020, streaming services became more important than ever, with an evening in front of the TV replacing nights out for most of us. Since its name is synonymous with streaming, it’s no surprise that Netflix was chosen as the ‘Best Streaming Service’ for supplying us with a year’s worth of distractions, from Tiger King to The Queen’s Gambit to Bridgerton.
Disney Plus was awarded ‘Best TV Content’, with thanks to the introduction of new shows like the Mandalorian and the phenomenon that is WandaVision to its massive library of films and TV shows.
Catherine Hiley, Senior Content Editor for Uswitch said, ”Disney Plus launched at the beginning of the first UK lockdown, bringing with it a treasure trove of quality content right when we needed it most. From day one, fans had access to movies and shows from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Star Wars, Pixar and The Simpsons, in addition to all the Disney classics we know and love.
“But rather than solely relying on its impressive back catalogue, Disney has also created a whole host of magical Disney Plus original content, including The Mandalorian, WandaVision and The Imagineering Story. So, whether you want to watch old-school Mickey Mouse cartoons or the latest Marvel movie, all you need is faith, trust and Disney Plus.”
Since most of us spent a lot of time streaming this year, your choice of smart media device is very important. While there are a number of great devices available, including the Amazon Fire TV Stick and the Roku Streaming Stick+, our judges selected the newest Chromecast as the best smart media device for a few reasons.
Nick Baker, Uswitch’s TV and streaming expert said, “The new Chromecast with Google TV not only offers superb viewing –– with some of the best 4K streaming quality out there –– but has an excellent, intuitive interface. You’re able to search, browse and receive recommendations from all your subscriptions in one place, and then easily share your content via all your connected devices.”
