Like the iPhone 16 Pro, the iPhone 16 Pro Max features a 48MP main Fusion camera and an upgraded 48MP ultrawide camera that combine to offer 5x optical zoom.
The user interface also received significant upgrades with the introduction of the Camera Control button. This button can be used to open the camera app, take a photo, change focus or camera modes, and even zoom in and out with a swipe.
iPhone 17 Pro Max vs iPhone 16 Pro Max
Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro Max builds on its predecessor but takes things in a slightly different direction. The iPhone 16 Pro Max was all about refinement: a sleek titanium frame, Apple’s powerful A18 Pro chip, and a 6.9-inch display paired with a triple-lens camera system that introduced 5× telephoto zoom. It was Apple’s biggest and most durable phone to date, appealing to users who wanted maximum performance and a premium build.
The iPhone 17 Pro Max keeps the same 6.9-inch footprint but switches to an aluminium frame for better heat management and comfort. Inside, it packs the new A19 Pro processor, promising smoother multitasking and a boost to Apple Intelligence features. The camera system is also getting a major upgrade, with all three rear lenses moving to 48 MP sensors and the periscope telephoto reportedly offering up to 8× lossless zoom. Add in the 'Center Stage' front camera, the 17 Pro Max looks set to be bigger, smarter, and longer-lasting than its predecessor.
iPhone 16 Pro Max AI and software
Apple Intelligence is at the heart of the iPhone 16 range. The new version of Siri will use ChatGPT and be built into the iPhone 16 Pro Max. It will feature writing and proofreading tools, generative photo editing tools and more impressive smart assistant capabilities.
The iPhone 16 Pro Max will ship with iOS 18 already installed, so you'll automatically get access to new features as long as you have iOS 18.2 version, such as:
