Connection news

Around nine in ten companies expect network equipment to be wireless enabled by 2012, according to new research.

However, there remain concerns over the security of wireless connections over wired networks.

A survey of European businesses by Motorola's Enterprise Mobility division found that more than half of firms (57 per cent) consider wireless for mobility reasons.

Nearly two thirds of those surveyed raised concerns over the security of wireless over LAN networks.

Angelo Lamme, wireless director at Motorola's Enterprise Mobility business, reassured firms that wireless can be made secure.

He told Techworld: "Security is a concern that can be addressed, it is just a matter of being well educated about it.

"It surprised me that security was top of the list, as the technology exists to secure wireless networks."

More than three quarters (76 per cent) of companies already have some kind of wireless infrastructure in place, although 41 per cent raised concerns over performance.
