Samsung Ativ S pre-orders start on Vodafone via Phones 4U

Samsung’s latest (and possibly greatest) Windows Phone challenger, the Ativ S, is now available to pre-order on Vodafone through Phones 4U.

Freshly voted ‘Best Online Retailer’ at this year’s uSwitch Mobile Awards, Phones 4U is ranging the Ativ S from £33 a month on a two-year term with Voda, which gets you a free handset, 600 minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB of monthly data, plus 2GB of Wi-Fi.

If you’re one of those who still use their phones for talking, for £34 a month and £29.99 for the handset itself, you can get unlimited minutes. You also get a more generous 2GB of monthly data and a less generous Wi-Fi allowance at 500MB.

Powered by the new and improved Windows Phone 8 operating system, the Ativ S is no slouch in the specs department, rocking a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED HD display just like the Galaxy S3, a 1.5GHz dual core chip that packs plenty of punch for playing and working and an eight-megapixel camera that handles full HD video recording with aplomb.

Also on board is a 1.9-megapixel front-facer for video conferencing, 16GB of internal storage and expandable memory via a microSD slot for the first time ever on a Windows Phone device.

To sweet the deal further, Phones 4U is also throwing free Wi-Fi access from The Cloud for the first three months.

Alas, pre-orders placed now will be shipped on December 21st, which most probably means it won’t land under your Christmas tree on time. We’re still waiting on word from other networks and vendors on their plans to offer the Ativ S. So stay tuned.
