Samsung could launch the much–anticipated Galaxy Note 8 in August, in an attempt to steal the limelight from Apple’s iPhone 8, which is expected to be unveiled in mid–September.

Reports from Samsung’s home country, South Korea, suggest the company will debut the handset at a special event towards the end of August.

It’s likely that this will take place a day or so before the annual IFA trade show kicks off in Berlin on 1st September.

Samsung has traditionally used the German tech expo to lift the lid new Note handsets.

The Galaxy Note 8 has been the subject of a wide array of leaks in recent weeks, which suggest the phone will feature a vertical dual lens camera, an in–screen fingerprint scanner, huge 6.3–inch screen and reworked S–Pen stylus.

Switching the device’s launch date could pay dividends for Samsung in terms of coverage at least.

During September, the attention of much of the technology press is likely to centre on Apple’s tenth anniversary iPhone.

It’s likely that the Galaxy Note 8 would not hit shelves until later that month, setting up a head–to–head with Apple’s overhauled smartphone at retailers in the run-up to Christmas.
