A new study of internet service providers (ISPs) has found that BT provided the best broadband service in 2007.
The report finds that BT maintained its position as the top-performing provider throughout all four quarters of the year.
Analyst firm Epitero tested various end-user attributes such as file transfers and domain name resolution to determine the overall speed and reliability of individual ISPs.
BT subsidiary PlusNet came in second place for the third and fourth quarter, with O2, Tiscali and Orange filling the other top five positions.
Speaking to Webuser, Phil Sheard, e-marketing manager of PlusNet, said the result was a "brilliant recognition for the investment and effort" the company had devoted throughout 2007.
It was the first time O2 had entered the standings and its performance was bolstered by having the lowest ping rates of all ISPs tested.
"Fast ping times are generally desirable for online casual gamers. The lower the ping time, the more enjoyable and playable the gaming experience," advised Epitiros managing director Gavin Johns.
