Energy regulator Ofgem has written to Energy UK – the energy industry association – to check whether energy suppliers are adhering with Energy UK’s “Code of Practice for Accurate Bills”.
Whilst the regulator specifically highlights that there is “no evidence of systematic errors”, it has been presented with evidence that customers are being left confused.
In particular they note cases of customers not receiving clear information from suppliers after price changes.
As a result Ofgem has said: “…it appeared that some information provided by suppliers may not have been clear and accurate.”
The code to which Ofgem refers, requires signatories to use all available information to provide ‘accurate, clear and timely bills’. The regulator has requested a response by the 28th of September.
