1.3 million face energy price rises as fixed plans end

More than 1.3 million UK households could face higher energy bills if they don't switch when their plans end this April.

According to new Uswitch research, 56 energy plans are set to come to an end this month. Check out our list of energy plans ending soon to see if your plan is affected.

Customers on these tariffs could see their energy bills increase by as much as £319 if they don't switch – that's a total price rise of £324 million for households across the UK.

Those who don't switch tariffs or energy providers when their plan ends will be automatically placed on their supplier's standard variable or default tariff, which is typically the most expensive type of plan.

With the energy price cap in place, these plans cost an average of £1,138 per year – which is £154 more expensive than the cheapest deal available through Uswitch today*. Plus, by switching to a fixed deal you be protected from energy price rises for a year or more.

Based on average bill sizes for a medium energy user on a dual fuel plan paying by monthly direct debit, and averaged across all regions.
