Uswitch comments on launch of Sony Xperia Z5, Compact and Z5 Premium
Commenting on the launch of the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia Z5 and Xperia Compact phones, Rob Kerr, mobiles expert at Uswitch.com, comments: “Sony’s new Xperia Z5 Premium handset certainly packs in the pixels with its stunning 4K resolution display, but it raises the question – do we really need TV-quality screens on our phones?
“There isn’t really any 4K content available for mobiles yet, so this is a huge gamble for Sony, and at a time when it really needs a win following the launch of its lacklustre Z3+ handset.
“However, there is an argument for turning up early to the party. Sony’s already well-established in the 4K TV market, so there’s no reason why it shouldn’t attempt to set the benchmark for next-generation smartphones too.
“If that fails, Sony has two other new phones to fall back on. And a three-pronged launch might well turn its fortunes around.
“The smaller-screened Compact and the Z5 don’t have the 4K resolution screen but they both pack in the same, and much-improved, 23-megapixel camera and fast fingerprint scanner as the Z5 Premium.
“It’s a clever move by Sony to give those on lower budgets the luxury of choice. And it proves that mobile makers don’t need to cut corners on specs, just to cut corners on price.”
