Uswitch comments on Plusnet home phone service switch-off

Sabrina Hoque, telecoms expert at Uswitch.com, comments: “Although Brits are increasingly moving away from using analogue landlines, these can still be a lifeline of connectivity for many.

“The analogue switch off has already started, with all providers due to retire analogue landline services by the end of 2025, in favour of digital broadband connected lines.

“We know many areas still struggle with poor mobile and broadband connection, so this is another reminder of how important it is to provide fast and reliable internet across the UK.

“The main group at risk of being left behind are vulnerable people and communities not yet up to speed with the digital switchover. Plusnet and other providers must make sure that these groups that use their service are looked after and not left without means of communication during the analogue switch off.

“In case of a power cut, providers are obligated to provide a solution for those that are dependent on their landline who may not have a mobile phone. This means those who may need to contact emergency services won’t be stranded.

“If you think you may be affected, you don’t need to do anything until you are contacted by your provider. If you are keen to move over earlier, you can choose a new phone and broadband package to suit you.”
