A new and as yet unnamed mobile phone from Motorola has been spotted, sporting Android on-board and a slightly odd flip phone design.

The phone is just a concept at the moment, but it would not be unheard of for Motorola to launch a mobile that challenges current design conventions.

The recently announced Backflip is just one example from a long line of Motorola mobiles which some will love and many will loathe.

The phone showcased on a Chinese Motorola fan forum turned up on Phandroid and it appears that Motorola may be looking into protecting the touchscreen display by covering it in a transparent plastic dome which flips up.

Most observers have reacted with revulsion to the admittedly ugly and seemingly pointless new flip cover.

Touchscreens can get scratched, but there are plenty of screen guards and cases out there that do a job of protecting the screen without wrecking the aesthetics and potentially rendering the screen itself unusable.

Bonkers phone. But it's not out-there enough to be a concept, so must be coming to market. I can't see it doing a Droid though. Flip phones seem really ten years ago, though.

Does it dial while closed? Anti-butt dialing is important unless you don't mind dialing grandma while getting it on with your girlfriend.
