HTC Quietly Brilliant Logo

HTC is to become the latest phone maker to bring a dual core processor powered smartphone to market in the shape of the cryptically named Pyramid, reports suggest.

According to an insider source cited by the ever reliable androidandme.com, the handset is reputed to pack a 1.2 GHz dual core Snapdragon processor – putting it in line with soon to arrive Sony Ericsson Arc, LG Optimus 2X and Samsung Galaxy S2.

The Pyramid – that’s surely a codename rather than an official title - is also said to be home to a 4.3-inch HD touchscreen, with 1080 video playback and support for 4G networks. However, that’s unlikely to be of any interest to anyone in the UK where, alas, next-gen mobile broadband is a distant dream.

HTC’s next challenger has apparently already been ranged by T-Mobile USA, with a mooted street date of May 2011. As yet UK carriers are unconfirmed.

In the meantime the eyes of HTC watchers will firmly focussed on the Mobile World Congress tech expo this month when the Android platform’s leading exponent is expected to lift the lid on its first ever tablet computer.
