Prices for the unlocked versions of HTC’s upcoming Facebook-optimised smarties, ChaCha and Salsa, have been revealed after Amazon UK begun taking preorders for the handsets.
The online retail giant is currently taking preorders for the hotly awaited smarties for £319.99 for the Salsa and £249.99 for the ChaCha and hopes to begin shipping both handsets to customers’ hands on June 26th.
The Salsa is a candybar-shaped phone that bears striking resemblances to HTC’s Desire line of phones. It sports a 3.4-inch touchscreen, a five-megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash and is preloaded with numerous Facebook widgets. In terms of raw processing speed it’s quite underpowered compared to the likes of the Desire range with CPU clockspeed of just 600MHz. But that should be plenty for those main interested in its social networking capabilities.
The ChaCha, meanwhile, is home to a four-row front-facing QWERTY keyboard, which means the screen size takes a hit at just 2.6-inches. But it also means users will be able to update their statuses faster and type out messages just as easily. Processing speed is exactly the same here.
A range of extras are also onboard such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, plus a front-mounted VGA for video calls, an array of sensors, and perhaps the most important feature of all, a dedicated ‘Facebook’ button that gives smartfans speedier and easier access to their social life than ever before.
Those looking to pick up the Salsa or ChaCha on a contract will be able to do so on a number of major mobile operators. T-Mobile and Vodafone have previously confirmed they will be carrying the ChaCha. The Salsa meanwhile will be an O2 exclusive.
