Samsung Galaxy S3 tops mobile chart for seventh straight month

Samsung Galaxy S3 tops mobile chart for seventh straight month

The Samsung Galaxy S3 was the UK’s most popular smartphone in November, uSwitch Tech’s latest Mobile Tracker reveals, heading up a chart dominated by Samsung smartphones.

The South Korean phone-maker’s flagship phone topped the tracker, which an aggregates clicks and sales from uSwitch and Omio partner sites, for the seventh consecutive month.

That capped another exceptionally strong month for Samsung, with top-ten entries for the ageing but still highly rated Galaxy S2 at 4th place, while the Galaxy Ace, Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy Ace 2 came in at 6th, 7th and 10th places respectively.

Interestingly and perhaps not too surprisingly, the iPhone makes an appearance in 2nd place. However, what might come as a surprise is that it’s the last-gen iPhone 4S that’s nestled in behind the Galaxy S3, knocking the latest version of Apple’s handset into 3rd place.

Ernest Doku, telecoms expert at uSwitch.com, says: “The affordable price point has kept the Samsung Galaxy S3 at the top of the tree, but whether it will be at the top of the Christmas tree remains to be seen, as price drops for both the 4S and 5 have seen the iPhone quickly gaining ground.

He added: “As for the Christmas number one, the Apple brand could well reign supreme and see the iPhone 4S take over in the final straight as the gift of choice for consumers, especially at these reduced price points.

“Eight months may well be just that month too long for the S3 to wear the mobile crown.”

Completing the run-down for November was the vanilla Android-toting LG Nexus 4, a new entry in 4th position, the 8th-placed Sony Xperia U and the HTC One X+ which debuted at number nine.
