LG has unveiled two new mobile phones that combine impressive touchscreens normally only seen on higher end models with mid-range functions and a focus on ease of use.
The new phones, dubbed the LG GW520 and the GT505, both support HSDPA for fast downloads and offer push e-mail, instant messaging and easy access to social networking sites.
The handsets differ, however, in the respect that the GT505 is fully touchscreen-operated, while the GW520 is also home to a full, slide-out Qwerty keyboard to make entering large amounts of text more efficient.
Jeremy Newing, marketing head of LG’s UK mobile phones division, said: "Mobile communications have been about more than just voice based calls for a long time, but consumers are now demanding more than just SMS and IM services.
"They want the kind of messaging and social networking features previously the preserve of high end handsets on a wide range of models, and that is what LG is offering.
He added: “We recognise the demand for mobile devices that enable quick and easy interaction with social network sites as a growing market."
South Korean-based LG’s burgeoning success in the global market was marked by its recent announcement that the LG KP500 Cookie has sold over two million units in just over six months.
