The Motorola Droid 2 has been pushed into the spotlight via official channels for the first time after US operator Verizon revealed its Android 2.2-based specifications.
The Droid 2 is the follow-up to what was known as the Milestone in the UK and it offers the same full QWERTY keypad and 3.7 inch touchscreen of its predecessor, together with several significant updates.
The Droid 2 can act as a Wi-Fi hotspot to allow multiple devices to share its 3G network connection and because it uses Android 2.2 it will offer access to Flash content in its native web browser.
High-definition video clips can be shot using the five-megapixel camera and the 8GB of onboard storage can be supplemented with a microSD memory card.
The Motorola Milestone never secured UK network backing, but hopefully the Droid 2 will be snapped up for consumers here.
Motorola has managed to regain traction thanks to its Android-based smartphones and the Droid 2 looks set to continue this trend with high-end features that will appeal to a wider audience.
