HTC Desire owners on 3 will finally get Android 2.2, AKA Froyo, tomorrow, the carrier has confirmed via Twitter.
The update to the latest version of Google’s operating system will start on Thursday at 9am and will be delivered over the air.
It’s likely that the roll out will be staggered, so you’ll need to be patient if you’re not among those who get upgraded early on.
Froyo arrives on Desire phones on 3 a good deal later than has been the case on rival UK carriers. Owners of HTC's best-selling smartphone on T-Mobile and Orange customers got the new iteration last month.
To 3's credit, it has acknowledged that the delay is unacceptable and pledged to work to ensure that rollouts will be managed faster and more smoothly in future.
The network stated: “We’re as frustrated as you are with the length of time it’s taken to get this update out and we’re looking at ways to reduce the lengthy updates process and communicate better with you moving forwards.”
The delays with pushing out Android updates to phones have been attributed to problems making the update compatible with networks' services and handsets' custom user interfaces.
HTC's Desire is the biggest-selling Android mobile so far and this week scooped the award for Phone of the Year from tech Bible T3.
