3 will be updating HTC Desire phones to the latest smartphone iteration of Android, AKA Gingerbread, it has been confirmed.
Last week, an HTC rep working at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) disclosed the phone maker intends to push out an update to the ageing handset – along with the newer HTC Desire HD and Desire Z - in an informal chat with the good people at Cnet.
Now, however, we’ve got something more tangible to go on, thanks to 3 which has officially confirmed it plans to give the phones a tasty OS bump later this year.
Responding to a Twitter enquiry over whether Gingerbread will be coming to the HTC Desire or not, the network stated:
"Yes we will but we don't have timescales yet :-)"
According to Cnet, the Desire HD and Desire Z will be first in line to get Android 2.3, with owners advised to expect Gingerbread to hit their phones during the spring. Desire users are reportedly looking at a slightly longer wait.
