Photos and specifications of the HTC Pyramid have surfaced online, ahead of its mooted release later this year.

According to Chinese site XDA.cn, the handset will rock a capacious 4.3-inch Super LCD display, plus a rear mounted eight-megapixel camera and a front-facing 1.3 megapixel secondary snapper for video calls.

Also on board is a 1.2GHz processor and the usual array of connectivity options (think: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth).

However, if our Sino friends are to believed, the real juice is that the Pyramid will run the Honeycomb version of Google’s Android OS – an iteration of the platform that we’d been told was reserved solely for tablet computers.

Given the site’s form with leaks of dubious veracity you’re advised to take this ‘revelation’ with a pinch of salt, though. We certainly are.

The first images of the Pyramid have landed as HTC’s latest line-up of Desire branded phones are due to arrive in stores in the UK, having attracted a barrage of criticism when they were officially unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC).

The kernel of the abuse was principally that HTC’s phones looked underpowered compared with the slew of dual core processor-packing Android handsets on the way from Sony Ericsson, Samsung and LG.
