3 now won’t be pushing out Android 2.3 to the original HTC Desire until the end of May, it has been confirmed.
The network originally expected to be able to make the new version of Google’s OS available at the end of April/early May. However, as the end of the April approached apace, it subsequently changed the due date to mid-May.
However, in news that won’t surprise Fanroids who’ve long since grown used to waiting around for platform updates, it now seems that Gingerbread won’t hit HTC’s smartie on 3 until a couple of weeks after that.
In response to a customer enquiry from one Captain Chaos, 3 tweeted: “Gingerbread will be coming to the HTC Desire around the end of May.”
3 customers with Samsung Galaxy S handsets should be feeling the Gingerbread update love soon, however. Back on April 6th, the carrier said it had provisionally scheduled the bump for a couple of weeks time. By our calculations, that means it ought to be here any day now.
Enhancements the new version of Android brings to handsets include a much-improved virtual keyboard, UI tweaks and slicker copy and paste.
