LG unveils 5-inch Retina display killer with full HD resolution

LG has developed a new five-inch super vibrant panel that gives the iPhone’s Retina display a right thumping in the resolution stakes.

As if it was not enough that its Optimus Vue kit boasted a 1024 x 768 resolution, the South Korean electronics-maker is working on a display with a glorious 1080p (1920 x 1080) HD resolution.

What’s more, it packs a positively staggering 440ppi pixel density, outshining the Retina display’s comparitively fuzzy 330ppi.

Better still, it uses a new panel technology called 'Advanced High Performance In-Plane Switching (AH-IPS), which, according to Engadget, gives "wide viewing angles, fast response times and improved brightness efficiency".

Topping it all off is a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, ideal for watching movies.

LG said the display will be available in the latter part of the year, but did not say whether it will launch with a phone or something else.

Still, the prospect of a portable device with such impressive features makes us giddy with joy, so we’ll be waiting anxiously for an announcement.
