Huawei announces Ascend P6 – the world’s thinnest Android smartphone at just 6.18mm thick

Huawei has officially raised the curtain on the Ascend P6, its most stylish and advanced smartphone yet as it looks to compete with Samsung and Apple in the big leagues.

Announced today at its ‘Beauty’ media event in London, the Ascend P6 is the slimmest Android smartphone to date, featuring an impressively thin aluminium alloy chassis that measures just 6.18mm and weighs in at 120 grams.

Standout specs include a 4.7-inch 720p HD in-cell LCD display with Gorilla Glass 2 protection, a 1.5GHz quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM and an eight-megapixel camera with an f/2.2 BSI lens and full HD video recording capabilities.

Also on board is 8GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD), a rather decent five-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls and a 2,000mAh battery.

In terms of connectivity, there is Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and HSPA+ support. Unfortunately, 4G LTE isn’t included, nor is Near Field Communication.

On the upside, the P6 comes with the latest Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean pre-installed, along with Huawei’s own Emotion UI slathered on top.

“The Huawei Ascend P6 is a star among smartphones with its industry-leading design, high-quality camera, and intuitive user interface, Huawei's proprietary Emotion UI," said Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group.

"Building on the success of our Ascend P series of fashion smartphones, the Huawei Ascend P6 provides unsurpassed technology and a design that is simply stunning."
