HTC has confirmed its newest smartphones will be updated to Google’s just-unveiled Android Oreo software.

Responding to a customer query on Twitter, the Taiwanese mobile-maker announced that the HTC 10, HTC U11 and HTC U11 Ultra will all be receiving Google’s beefed-up operating system.

What exactly is Android Oreo bringing to your phone? We've outlined all the key changes.

It's not yet clear when the update will be made available for the phones listed. But the fact HTC wasted no time in making its announcement after Android Oreo’s official launch this week means it's likely to be sooner rather than later.

Right now, only Google’s Pixel and Nexus phones can be updated to Android Oreo.

Devices from Samsung, LG and Sony are not likely to be upgraded until 2018.

Android Oreo comes with a raft of internal improvements designed to boost performance.

Boot-up speeds will be faster, while changes to how apps work in the background should deliver a noticeable uptick in battery life.

Google has also started grouping notifications together by category, in a bid to cut down on countless updates and streamline the way users receive information from messaging services and apps.
