A Google Nexus S handset purchased on eBay has given Fandroids their best look yet at the forthcoming Ice Cream Sandwich iteration of Google’s smartphone operating system.

Ice Cream Sandwich, aka Android 4.0, was officially announced back in May and blends elements of the tablet-optimised Honeycomb edition of the platform with the current Gingerbread version for smartphones.

Among the features it brings are a revamped app launcher and holographic user interface. And we’ve also got a new homescreen widgets to look forward to and the addition of a multi-tasking panel just like Honeycomb.

However, a few leaked screen shots aside, since May, we’ve had only the briefest of looks at the new OS.

At least we had, until Engadget sourced a YouTube clip of a Google Nexus S, which is currently powered by Gingerbread, running Android 4.0, courtesy of an unwitting punter who's said to have bought it on eBay.

And very impressive it is too. Our personal highlights take in the multi-tasking menu, as well as the handy extra shortcuts that adorn the foot of the display.

Alas, unless you fancy trying your luck in online auctions and hoping for the best, you’ll have to wait until November to get your hands on a phone powered by Android 4.0, when the Nexus Prime is expected to land on store shelves.

@Terry B What do you mean "another"? Nexus Prime (or whatever it's named when it's released) is expected to host the new OS, and to say no one cares about Google's phones is downright false and illogical. Google's primary purpose of their Nexus lined phones is to offer phone with the most well-rounded spec sheet to force manufacturers to up their game. People very much care about Google's phones.
