The Sony Xperia S has gone on sale on T-Mobile, as the carrier joins Three, O2 and Orange in ranging the handset.
Sony’s debut smartie sans former partner Ericsson is available for free on contracts starting at £36 per month over a two-year contact. That includes unlimited internet, texts and calls to T-Mobile numbers every month, as well as 2,000 anytime, any-network minutes.
Retaining the Xperia branding that was birthed under the aegis of Sony’s partnership with Ericsson, the handset teams an Exmor R sensor-packing 12 megapixel camera with a pixel-dense 4.3-inch HD screen.
It’s also home to a dual-core processor, 32GB of on board storage and Near Field Communications technology to allow users to pay for small-ticket goods and services by swiping their handset over a reader.
The Xperia S ships with Android 2.3 (A.K.A Gingerbread) out of the box, but is set to get an update to the latest Ice Cream Sandwich edition of Google’s OS imminently.
